That is why she shows up only after you fall asleep. If she appeared before me and said “what is your wish?”… It would be something like this. And she would be obliged to comply …

Rarely depicted Disney gal, but a very recognizable one. The blue fairy has almost never been portrayed like this. There is a demotiposter around the web that says something like this…”the more innocent and cute is something, the more pleasure we have in perverting it”. Not the exact words, but you get the idea.

After studying her design I had a revelation… She is wearing a vaporous see-through robe!!!! Only the bright aura around her covers this fact, but I thought that under that robe she must be wearing some lace and lingerie. Took some liberties with the lingerie design, hmmm…
The angle of the face was a pain in the neck, The eyes gave me a lot of trouble, I had to redo them several times to get the angle right (and still not totally satisfied… ). Flipping the image horizontally every now and then helped a lot to analize it with new fresh vision and detecting flaws.

In the movie, the fairie emits light, and in some parts she seems to be illuminated by a celestial spotlight. I chose the last one, so that way I could add some shadows for volume. She looked flat on the movie since she had almost no shadows, only glows.
She really benefits from colored lineart, It gives her that glowy ethereal effect. I had to use a double layer for the “celestial spotlight”, one for the front an other for the back.
