Description

So I was reviewing the design of Q Bee and let me tell you that the artists at capcom nailed it again. I read about her mythology and found out that she is a soul bee, in charge of feeding her beehive with souls. She is also kind of a mimic. her face is so unexpressive because ... that´s not her face!!, her real eyes are the blue orbs on top of her head. That´s the reason thatr during her fighting stance she is kind of looking at the floor, she is actually looking at you with her bee eyes. So in fact she is not a worker bee, she is a highly evolved predator.

Sooooo if there is a soul bee, then there must be a soul spider, am I right??
based on these supositions I designed a soul spider based on the design traits of Q bee (fake face, real eyes on top of the head, insect elements hidden on outfit design, etc) and in my honest opinion it was really close and the idea was really good but I couldn´t nail the design as satisfactory as I would have wanted to. So long story short: the soul spider is not included in the pic because I didn´t feel satisfied with her design and she would have looked kind of not in the same universe as Q Bee.

I´m not a fan of full body wrapping, which a spider would normally do with her prey. so I thought long and hard on a pose that would leave her inmobilized, exposed and with the "bee butt" out of the way for ... ahem... somethings. So moderate webbing. sometimes less is more.

Anyway, I like how the bevel and emboss filter makes the webbing look 3Dish with little work, but if you try to make it all in one layer, it will all turno into a big blob of gooish web. So I made 3 different layers of webbing to give it enough volume and to be able to add enough  shadowing.
I used Q,bee sprite pallete, but ended up changing it to fit the mood of the pic. mostly a Hue Sat adjustment.
background, beehive pattern tweaked with an overlay of spider web.

So all of this trouble for a bee on a web.,.. yep.
